Resetting the object's scale is vital before starting detailed operations in Blender:
- Add Cube:
Shift + A-> Cube. - Scale: Press
S, thenXto elongate the block. - GOLDEN RULE: Press
Ctrl + Aand select Scale. If you skip this, Bevel operations will be distorted.
In the real world, nothing is perfectly sharp. Bevel adds realism to your object:
- Edit Mode: Press
Tab. - Edge Selection: Press
2. PressAto select everything. - Bevel: While holding down
Ctrl, pressB. Drag your mouse slowly. - Smoothing: Scroll the mouse wheel up to increase the number of edges (segments) on the bevel.
Inset is used to add a window or panel detail onto the block:
- Face Selection: Press
3and click the front face of the block. - Inset Face: Press
Ionce and slide your mouse toward the center. - Result: A new face is created inside the current face, equidistant from the edges.
Let's add detail by moving the face we created with Inset inward or outward:
- Extrude Out: Press
Eand pull your mouse outward. - Extrude In: Press
Eand push your mouse toward the inside of the block. - Tip: If you don't want it to pierce the back wall when pushing inward, try pressing Alt + E and using the Extrude Manifold option.
