Bending and Ramp Techniques: Making a Skate Park

Advanced methods you need to turn flat surfaces into smooth ramps.

Allows surrounding points to follow a point smoothly like a "magnet" when you pull it. It's the easiest way for those famous slopes in a skate park:

  • How to Open? Click the round icon at the top center or press O.
  • Usage: While selecting an edge or point and pulling with G, scroll the mouse wheel. The circle that appears on the screen determines the area affected by the bending.
  • Falloff: You can choose the bending shape (Smooth, Sharp, Linear, etc.) from the menu next to the round icon.

Bevel (Ctrl+B) is not just for breaking sharp corners, but also for turning a flat wall into a giant ramp. The logic is very simple: we crush a corner so much that it becomes a ramp.

  • Preparation: You are in Edit Mode and have selected a 90-degree sharp edge inside a cube.
  • Expansion: Press Ctrl + B and pull the mouse away from the object. You will see the corner opening up.
  • Adding Curvature: While continuing to pull the mouse, **scroll the mouse wheel up.** New lines are added there with every wheel turn.
  • Result: As the number of lines increases, that sharp corner turns into a perfect and smooth skate ramp (Quarter Pipe).
  • Tip: If the ramp stays too small, move the mouse further away. The further you pull it, the more massive the ramp will be.

Allows you to make 90 or 180-degree oval turns by rotating a flat surface around a center:

  • Preparation: Select a surface (Face) in Edit Mode.
  • Placement: Place the 3D Cursor (red-white ring) where you want the center of the turn to be.
  • Operation: Select the Spin tool from the toolbar on the left and rotate it by holding the plus (+) icon.
  • Precision Adjustment: Get professional turns by setting the angle to exactly 90° or 180° from the panel at the bottom left.

After making the ramp, you might want to get rid of that huge block and leave only the thin "paper-like" surface for the skateboard to glide on. Here are the steps:

  • Edit Mode (Tab): Enter the object.
  • Face Selection (3 Key): Press the 3 key at the top of the keyboard to enter face selection mode.
  • Select Unwanted: Select those large flat surfaces on the sides and bottom of the ramp one by one by left-clicking (while holding the Shift key).
  • Deletion (X): When finished selecting, press the X key and select the Faces option from the menu that opens.
  • Result: Now you only have that perfect, thin oval ramp surface left!
  • Note: If you want to give this "paper" surface a very slight thickness, you can use the Solidify modifier we learned before.

When you make a paper-thin surface, one side will be visible in Roblox while the other side is completely invisible (transparent). If the wrong side remains invisible, it's very easy to flip it:

  • Edit Mode (Tab): Enter the object.
  • Select All (A): Press the A key on the keyboard to select all surfaces.
  • Flipping Menu: Press Alt + N on the keyboard.
  • Flip: Click the **Flip** option from the small menu that opens.
  • Result: Now the invisible side becomes visible, and the visible side becomes invisible (back side).
  • Tip: Don't forget to open the Face Orientation (Blue/Red) check we learned before to understand which side is the "front"!

If your ramp still looks angular, you can use this modifier that automatically increases the polygon count:

  • Modifier: Add Modifier -> **Subdivision Surface**.
  • Caution: This tool significantly increases the polygon count. Try to keep the Levels Viewport value at 1 or 2 for Roblox performance.
  • Important: Don't forget to use Shade Smooth after applying this modifier!
