Blender Text and Typography

Learn how to add 3D text to your objects, customize fonts, and convert them into meshes.

  • Adding: Shift + A -> Click Text.
  • Editing Content: With the text selected, press Tab to enter Edit Mode. Now you can type using your keyboard.
  • Finishing: When done typing, press Tab again to return to Object Mode.

To make text look solid rather than paper-thin:

  • Click the "a" (Object Data Properties) icon in the right panel.
  • Open the Geometry tab.
  • Extrude: Increase this value to give the text thickness (depth).
  • Bevel -> Depth: Increase this slightly (e.g., 0.01) to round the edges of the letters.
  • In the same "a" panel, find the Font tab.
  • Regular: Click the folder icon to select font files from your computer (usually in C:\Windows\Fonts).
  • Note: Make sure the font you choose supports any special characters you are using.

If you want to modify individual letters or add modifiers, you must convert the text to a mesh object:

  • In Object Mode, Right-Click the text.
  • Select Convert To -> Mesh.
  • WARNING: After this operation, you can no longer change the text content using your keyboard!
